South Penlan Community Centre

Free community broadband

South Penlan Community Centre is a welcoming space at the heart of its neighbourhood, offering practical support, warmth, and connection to people of all ages. From job searches and benefit applications to early years education and community wellbeing, the centre plays an important role in everyday life.

Thanks to the Digital Infrastructure Programme, the centre now has access to five years of free broadband, provided by Virgin Media O2 as part of the Dark Fibre East project. This contribution is part of the social value being delivered across Swansea, helping community spaces like South Penlan to expand their services and reach more people. Annaliese Gower, Premises manager said:

Having reliable internet access means people who use our centre can search for jobs, complete applications, make online payments and get the digital support they need. It’s also helping our foodbank to offer more joined-up support and giving children in our Cylch Meithrin access to digital learning resources that enhance their experience of the world.

The broadband connection is already making a difference. Groups using the centre can now access the internet to support the services they provide, whether that’s helping someone apply for work, offering financial guidance, or simply creating a more connected and inclusive space.

With digital access now in place, South Penlan Community Centre is better equipped to meet the needs of its community offering practical help, learning opportunities, and a warm welcome to everyone who walks through its doors.
