Faith in Families is a charity dedicated to supporting families experiencing poverty, crisis, trauma and disadvantage across Swansea. The organisation helps people build resilience, provides access to essential services and creates opportunities for their futures.
Delivered by BT as part of their social value commitment through the Better Broadband Infill Project, the charity has been awarded a Digital Inclusion Fund, which will help support residents to build digital skills and confidence.
The £15,750 investment will be used to buy laptops and fund an eight-week community programme called ‘Safe Working, Digital Information Skills & Confident Communication’, designed to help residents in Bonymaen, Clase and Portmead gain practical digital skills and grow their confidence online.
Across the course of the programme, 30 local participants will take part in guided sessions that will help them:
· develop essential digital skills for everyday life
· build confidence using online tools and services
· move closer to volunteering, learning and employment opportunities
Despite increasing reliance on online tools for work, services and connection, digital exclusion continues to affect many families. This programme directly tackles those barriers by providing laptops for participants to use during the course, internet support and connectivity and tailored one-to-one digital guidance for those who need extra help.
The laptops will remain in the local community hubs after the programme ends, creating a sustainable resource for ongoing learning, job-searching and family support.
Course content and delivery expertise will be embedded within the organisation, enabling staff to continue offering digital skills training in future. Sessions will take place in familiar, trusted community venues, helping participants feel comfortable, supported and engaged.
This investment gives us the opportunity to build digital confidence in communities where access can often feel out of reach. By bringing together practical digital skills with confidence and communication support, we’re helping families not just connect online, but move forward with greater independence and opportunity.Natasha Cardone, Faith in Families
