New broadband coverage data shows that Carmarthenshire has made substantial progress in improving digital connectivity, with more homes and businesses now able to access fast and reliable internet services.
Latest figures from ThinkBroadband indicate continued progress toward next‑generation connectivity in Carmarthenshire, with around 75 per cent of premises now able to access gigabit‑capable broadband and full‑fibre services.
Whilst this improvement is welcomed, it reflects the need for a continued combination of commercial rollout and targeted intervention programmes. Initiatives such as UK Government’s Project Gigabit, the Digital Infrastructure Programme’s Better Broadband Infill Project and ongoing collaboration with Welsh Government through the Extended High-Speed Broadband (EHSB) initiative, will help to extend better connectivity to the county’s hardest‑to‑reach communities and strengthen long‑term digital resilience.
These latest figures reflect a significant investment in fibre infrastructure and demonstrate Carmarthenshire’s growing readiness for future digital services and innovation.
As these figures increase, the number of properties experiencing very slow broadband speeds will in turn fall. Currently, fewer than two per cent of premises are estimated to receive speeds below 2 Mbps, while just under five percent remain below the 10 Mbps Universal Service Obligation threshold.
Cllr Hazel Evans from Carmarthenshire County Council said:
This data demonstrates real progress in strengthening the county’s digital foundations. Access to fast, dependable broadband is essential for economic growth, public service delivery and social inclusion, particularly in a county with a large rural footprint.Cllr.
